After getting a late start and sitting in traffic for an hour, I finally arrived at Book Soup in LA for a short talk by Chris Guillebeau. Since I was 45 minutes late, I barely even caught the end of his book signing. As I was chatting it up with his literary agent, I noticed a woman passing out addressing to the after-party. She was quite spunky with a vivacious style to her…introducing herself to people as Colleen and handing out fortune-cookie-sized addresses to a “humble abode.”
I plugged in the address to Google Maps on my phone, and I headed up the hill until I only had an ounce of gas left in the tank…coasting into place in front of the valet parking. As I walked in the front door, I noticed one familiar face…that of the woman passing out the address to the home.
“Hi Colleen!” as if I actually knew her.
Come to find out…Colleen is otherwise known as the Communicatrix. Our quick conversation led to my confession, her profuse cussing, and a nice chat about the last year of her life. Thus…the reason for the interview. I was fascinated by her willingness to walk away from a role that she wasn’t happy with (i.e., she was stuck) in order to experience something new. Well, I’ll let her tell you about it.
